How do I upgrade to Windows 10



Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows 10, has been released and you can download it for free if you already have Windows 7 or 8. Here’s how

If you have a brand new computer:

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet 
  2. A message will appear letting you know Windows 10 is available to be installed. Follow the on-screen instructions and ‘Agree’
  3. Windows 10 will download automatically in the background – this may take a little while. You can use your computer as normal while this is happening
  4. When the download is finished, a message will appear letting you know the upgrade is ready. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the upgrade. This may take up to an hour, so sit back and relax. No data will be lost during this process

If you already have a Windows 7 or 8 computer:

  1. Click on the Get Windows 10 icon in the taskbar at the bottom right of your screen. If you can’t see it, you may need to update your system
  2. Use the Get Windows 10 app to check if your device is compatible for upgrade and click on Reserve your Upgrade to take your place in the queue
  3. Once you’ve reserved your upgrade to Windows 10, you should wait notification that the update is ready. You may need to wait a few days for your place in the queue to come up
  4. Once you get the notification, follow the on-screen instructions to proceed and Windows 10 will download automatically in the background. This may take a little while, but you can use your computer as normal while this is happening
  5. When the download is finished, you’ll get a message letting you know the upgrade is ready. Follow the on screen instructions and the update will run. This may take up to an hour, so sit back and relax. No data will be lost during this process
