Amazingly, you can now have home security that clever with a smart home system like Samsung's SmartThings. SmartThings is controlled on your smartphone (Apple or Android) and can be customised for any home using individual components.
For beating burglars, your home’s voice of doom is a Sonos Multi-Room Wireless Speaker. You can set it to play a custom message by pairing it up with SmartThings.
Unexpected movement like a window or door being forced is detected by a motion sensor which automatically triggers the “We’re calling the police" alert.
And any burglar who hasn’t already scarpered shouldn’t think you’re bluffing.
The SmartThings app can send a text alert to your phone, so you can call in the law.
Eyes for your home
For extra protection, you can hook up your smart home system to a Wi-Fi security camera like Samsung's SmartCam. That lets you watch video of the scene on your phone and record it to use as evidence later if you need it.
Forward the video to the police and that should make illustrating the Wanted poster a lot easier.
Aside from SmartThings giving you more security and peace of mind when you’re away from home, you can also have fun dreaming up new burglar-baffling messages. Try:
'Video of you is being streamed live to YouTube.'
'You've seen Taken, right? Well my dad's like Liam Neeson.'
‘If we'd known you were coming, we'd have baked a cake... for the police who are coming to arrest you.’
‘If our home is smart enough to talk to you while you rob us, imagine what else it could do to you...’
‘I can see you,’ followed by the sound of scary manic laughter from your favourite horror film.
Or just play the sounds of huge dogs barking or a deafening siren alert. That’ll make ‘em think twice!
