It was therefore great to see the latest Smart Tech products being demonstrated at the latest Ideal Home Show. Here are our top 5...
This amazing tap not only delivers hot and cold water, it makes the coffee too. Using an app controlled from your Smartphone or tablet, the TopBrewer tap brews your favourite coffee drink using the freshly ground coffee beans. The tap includes a milk foamer at the tip of the tap for creamy lattes and cappuccinos. While it looks simple and neat on the worktop, there must be quite a lot of machinery under the counter.
2) Withings wireless home security camera
The Withings wireless home security camera features environmental sensors that detect impurities in the air, helping to make your home safer and healthier. Via the free app, you can monitor your home from wherever you are in the world and even see and speak to your loved ones or babysitter in your home while you are out. This incredible home monitor features fire, smoke and carbon monoxide sensors and motion detectors to alert you to any movement in the room in addition to a night vision setting once it is too dark to see.

4) Drop Smart scale
You'll never have to weigh ingredients again with this Bluetooth-connected scale and accompanying recipe app. Simply choose a recipe from the collection on the app, place a mixing bowl on top of the Drop scale and start adding your ingredients. Drop then tells you via the display or by voice control when you add the correct quantities of flour, sugar, etc. It can also adjust the measurements of ingredients to the amount of servings you need and suggest substitutes for ingredients if you've run out or fancy something different.
