Bloggers’ bake off: The Cookery School Glasgow

The 12th October saw some of our favourite bloggers attend an event at The Cookery School in Glasgow. Learning from the masters, by the end of the day they had produced some fabulous results. It was baked goods galore, with Victoria sponges, scones and cupcakes being whipped up left, right and centre.

The 12th October saw some of our favourite bloggers attend an event at The Cookery School in Glasgow. Learning from the masters, by the end of the day they had produced some fabulous results. It was baked goods galore, with Victoria sponges, scones and cupcakes being whipped up left, right and centre.

The day kicked off with coffee and chit chat. As the fellow bloggers got to know each other a little. The Cookery School is renowned for its wide range of courses, which are fantastic if you want to get a little more comfortable in the kitchen. Our bloggers were certainly excited to get on board straight away. Slurping the last of their coffees, they turned to watch the first of the lessons.

First off, the guys were shown how to make the perfect scone. They watched eagerly as the chef kneaded dough, not daring to look away in the knowledge it would be their turn next. It wasn't long until our bloggers were donning aprons themselves. What followed was the stuff of pure magic. Flour flew, spoons stirred, whisks whisked and before you could say "scone" there was a beautiful batch waiting to be devoured.

After tasting their masterpieces the bloggers, now thirsty for more, were shown how to make Victoria sponges and then cupcakes. The results from all three cooking sessions were delicious and bountiful. Full and happy the bloggers set off home, hopefully to write about their wonderful Cookery School adventures.

Fancy trying your hand at baking?

If you fancy dabbling in a bit of bakery at home or getting involved in our office bake off, we say go for it. It's a rewarding hobby to take up and, what's more, will keep your cupboards stocked with scrumptious treats. There are a few important things to consider before you get started. Firstly, make sure you buy the right ingredients. Whilst there's often a little leeway with quantities, using the wrong type of flour can have disastrous results.

Kenwood Mixers

When it comes to baking, success is in the finer details. Secondly, invest in some good equipment. Not only will it make your life easier, it will make your cakes taste better. We like Kenwood's range of mixers for the sheer quality they offer. In particular, the Kenwood Chef mixer is great for mixing your dough to the perfect consistency (say goodbye to tired arms). All in all, the best way to tackle baking is to get stuck in (literally). Don't be afraid to get messy and don't be put off if your first cake has a soggy bottom. We bet it tastes good anyway.
