Currys Kick-Off the Inaugural Currys FIFA Cup!
Eight bloggers took part in a quick-fire FIFA tournament last night with the winner being awarded a prize of 2 tickets to the FA Cup Semi Final between Arsenal and Wigan.
Last night, eight bloggers got together to take part in the first ever Currys FIFA Cup and battled it out in a tournament to win tickets to one of this year's FA Cup Semi Finals.
Currys launched the event with partners Beko and invited a selection of keen football bloggers from the local area to take part.
The prize was kindly donated by Beko who are a sponsor of this year's FA Cup. Beko are also a manufacturer of a fantastic range of beko fridges and stylish beko built-in ovens which can all be found together on the Currys website.
Travelling from across London to take part in the event, the pressure on the bloggers was apparent from several nervy and tense fixtures at the beginning of the evening. Players were allowed to select whichever team they liked and played each other in 15 minute matches.
The Arsenal bloggers were out in force early as both She Wore and Arsenal Youth won their Quarter Final matches to face each other in the first Semi. Meanwhile, Scoop on the City put out Iron Views and Boro Guide beat The False Nine.
All was not lost for the those who lost early on however, as prizes were also on offer for the winner of a table football tournament and for the best tweet of the evening using the hash tag #CurrysFIFACup.
Returning to the tournament, Arsenal Youth and Boro Guide both stormed through to the final. The crowd fell silent as the anthem 'Three Lions' played before kick-off, and then the action began.
Neither side looked comfortable in the opening stages but soon a free, flowing game of football emerged. Both sides looked dangerous on the counter attack but it was Arsenal Youth who struck first after being awarded a contentious penalty decision. The striker coolly slotted the ball home to the left of the goalkeeper and gave his team the lead.
Boro Guide fought back valiantly and had several late chances, but ultimately failed to convert. Fittingly, Arsenal Youth won the tournament and the prize of two tickets to the Arsenal vs. Wigan FA Cup Semi-Final at Wembley.
We'd like to say a huge thank you to all the bloggers who came down to the very first Currys FIFA Cup and we hope you had a great time! We hope to run similar events in the future so stay tuned to TechTalk and the @CurrysPCWorld Twitter page for more info!
Congratulations to Jeorge Bird from Arsenal Youth who was the winner of the first ever Currys FIFA Cup!
Thanks as well to Sport Formation who won a JD Sports Voucher for their fantastic tweeting and to The False Nine who took home a 2014 Replica England Home Shirt as their prize for winning the table football tournament.
