For four whole days in January, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) heads to Las Vegas. And this year's event should be particularly interesting, as many leading electronic companies are promising to showcase their brand-new technology to the wide-eyed public. But the best part is that Currys is going to be there to cover CES live!

CES 2012 (1)

So what does CES have in store for us this year? Well without further ado, let me run through some of the new kit and trends that the Currys experts believe will be on show at CES 2013:

     1.       Intel set to reveal some new hardware

Rumour has it that Intel is planning to use CES 2013 to show-off their new range of hardware. We can assume this as there was a recent filing from Intel at the US Federal Communications Commission, which revealed an intriguing device with the label "Red Ridge".

For those who may be unaware, Red Ridge is Intel's Medfield-based tablet platform, and this indicates that they are developing a brand-new tablet. While this information is certainly newsworthy on its own, there have been additional reports that show that the electronic chip giant is currently testing several production units. So let's hope that we see an Intel tablet at CES!

In more exciting news for Intel, many believe that they will also be revealing their new Bay Trial-T tablet chips. The Bay Trial-T is believed to be a quad-core processor, and it is scheduled for a 2014 release.

     2.       Samsung is having a busy CES

There are many rumours that suggest that Samsung is going to have a big CES. The first bit of news is that the Galaxy S4 will be show with a full HD AMOLED display, meaning that the display resolution will reach 1920 x 1080 and a staggering 441 PPI. The AMOLED technology is also ultra-thin and very energy-efficient.

In addition, it has been suggested that Samsung are going to reveal the world's largest Ultra HD TV. Measuring in at 85 inch, this Samsung TV may even make some of the Vegas lights look a little understated!

     3.       Tablets... Tablets everywhere

Being the world's largest showcase of new technology in the world, one may expect to see a couple of new tablets on display. And you would be right, but there are two particular tablet-related rumours that have piqued our interest.

Firstly, it has been suggested that Asus are working on a 7-inch tablet with the (provisional) name ME172V. Not only will this new slate come with a Micro SD slot for expandable memory, but it should also come with a price tag that will make the Nexus 7 take notice.

Samsung are equally looking to get in on the act, as the latest rumours are leading us to believe that the South Korean giant is creating a 13.3 inch tablet to rival the Asus Transformer series. The latest Samsung tablet could even feature a QWERTY keyboard.

     4.       The Debut of Ultra HD Televisions

So now that everyone has HD and 3D TVs, manufacturers have decided to push out a series of cutting-edge, ultra-HD television sets.

But there are still many burning questions that we need answering regarding Ultra HD televisions. Although we know that an Ultra HD TV needs to have at least 8 million pixels (with a resolution of 3840 x 2160), as well as an aspect ratio of 16 x 9, we don't know how big the screens will be at CES 2013.

More importantly though, we are still unsure of when these televisions will become affordable. Right now, an Ultra HD TV will set you back upwards of £10,000, so you'll need a large amount of disposable income if you want to get one.
