Consumer Electronics Show 2011 - What is it?
What is CES?
CES 2011 is the world's largest gadget show, packed with new products, world first unveilings and eye-popping tech spectacles. Think of CES as a gigantic gadget festival, kicking off the new year with all the big players rolling out their new toys for the next 12 months. But that's not all. Read on, and we'll break down CES in detail.
Everyone who matters! From tech giants Intel and Microsoft to startups you've never heard of with innovative new products that send jaws to the floor. CES plays host to all types of companies, from software vendors to hardware heavyweights.
Expect to see the major consumer electronics firms showing off their most dazzling new kit: Sony, LG, Sharp, Pioneer, Samsung, Panasonic and Motorola will all be in attendance, alongside computing powerhouses Microsoft, Intel, Asus and MSI to name just a few. In total, CES 2011 will play host to more than 40,000 exhibitors across all product categories.
How long does it last?
It's not easy to pack that much gadgetry into a short space of time, but officially CES spans four days, from January 6th to the 9th. However, for those in the know, the first preview events kick off on the 4th, with all the major manufacturers holding press conferences on the 5th.
Not all events are open to all comers, but with our names on the door for every press conference, preview event and sneak peek you can be assured we'll bring you the inside track on all the latest tech. In total, that's six days of gadget indulgence. Now sit back and enjoy!
What's been launched at CES before?
Every year, CES plays host to a ton of product launches. Toshiba's Cell TV, the Parrot AR Drone and the Palm Pre have all been launched at CES. There are big-name products in every category, although this year the smart money is on 3D technologies, smartphone apps and a ton of tablet computers.
CES is closed to the public, but we'll be on the front row of every press conference and scouring every stand to bring you the kit that'll take pride of place on your gadget wish list well into 2011.
