Does your smartphone rarely stray from your hand? Why not try using it to book your next getaway with Google’s new holiday planning feature.
What is Google Destinations?
Looking for the best holiday no longer requires flicking between different apps and search tabs. With Google Destinations you simply type in the name of country or continent you’d like to visit followed by the word ‘destination’.
For instance, a search of ‘Scotland destinations’ brings up a grid of Scottish towns and cities you might be interested in visiting, determined by popularity.
You can navigate through the results by tapping on the filters to personalise your getaway:
- Looking for a cheap holiday? Not a problem – narrow down options within your budget using the price filter
- Don’t know when you want to go? Use the date filter to find the perfect time to travel
- Not sure what you want to do when there? The interests filter helps you find activities to do
Want to know more about a destination? Select ‘Explore’ and find everything from when the right time to visit is to the best kept secrets only the locals have.
Take the hassle out of booking
When you’ve decided on where you want to go you can tap ‘Plan a trip’ to discover rates for hotels and flights during the next six months. All of the information is in real-time so you know you have the latest details.
Tap the pencil icon to tailor your holiday to suit your needs including the number of travellers, how many stars the hotel has and the amount of days you want to be away.
You can even see the estimated price of your holiday so there are no nasty surprises. And when you’re ready to go ahead you can select the options you want and even book online.
Plan your itinerary
Why not make the most of your holiday by including your favourite pastimes? Type the name of the destination followed by the activity and Google will show you plenty of results for you to choose from.
For example, ‘Portugal wine tasting’ provides a number of destinations where you can indulge in a spot of the local vino.
Or if you’re not sure what you want to do first, Google have that covered too. You can find a number of suggested itineraries based on what other travellers have visited or seen when they went to where you want to go.
Type in the destination, plus ‘travel’ and then click on the blue arrow icon to browse the most frequently travelled itineraries.
The new feature is a great way to spend those wasted minutes while you’re standing in the queue in your lunch hour – now you can plan and book your trip with just a few taps on the screen. Happy travels!
