What to expect at IFA 2018
IFA 2018 looks set to be one of the best yet. Here’s what we’re looking forward to seeing.
IFA is Europe's biggest annual technology show. It's held in Berlin and this year it kicks off on 31 August, and runs up to 5 September. We’ll be bringing you the latest news from all the big press announcements.
Samsung to take TVs to another level
Samsung’s launches are always a highlight, and we’re expecting IFA 2018 to be a big one for the tech giant. If rumours are to be believed we could be in for something special. Word has it that Samsung could be introducing an 8K TV. Now that’s something worth getting excited about – imagine watching movies on one of those.
Samsung is also tipped – according to reports – to be showing off a Galaxy Home speaker to rival the Amazon Echo and Apple HomePod. Stay tuned to TechTalk to find out if the rumours are true.
Sony’s next wave of camera phones
We’re expecting to see a handful of phones unveiled during IFA 2018, and it looks like Sony will be joining in. The company is said to be preparing a new dual-camera Xperia smartphone that offers great low-light photography.
The new phone is said to feel slimmer than previous Sony phones, so having a cracking camera inside your phone doesn’t have to mean bulky pockets to go with it.
Gaming laptops to become more portable
It’s all been rather quiet on the laptop rumour front, however IFA barely goes by without some new computers to get excited about. We’re expecting gaming to play a big role this year, with thinner, more powerful devices on the horizon.
Gaming laptops have always been big and bulky things, so here’s hoping we’ll see something more travel-friendly from the big manufacturers. We’ve heard whispers of a new gaming laptop from Razer, too. There may even be more 2-in-1 laptops that you can use as a tablet for entertainment on-the-go, or as a PC for doing more work on.
Philips is ready to make your life better
Philips has often unveiled its new range of health products at IFA, and that looks set to continue. The company has a countdown page that, you guessed it, counts down to IFA 2018.
On the page is a message promising new innovations to: “help you stay healthy, live well and enjoy life” – so that’s something else to look forward to. Expect more Oral HealthCare products to get your teeth gleaming.
Smartwatches to die for
Watch-maker Fossil has been at the forefront of smartwatch tech for years, and it looks like the company will also be showing some of their new designs at IFA.
You can also expect some stylish new models from the latest Michael Kors collection, and other designer brands such as Armani and Diesel. They will be even more feature-packed than ever, so expect them to have NFC for contactless payments, built-in GPS, and be more waterproof for everyday wear as standard.
There’s also bound to be range refreshes from brands such as Garmin, Casio and Fitbit, so watch this space.
Phones built for fun
Phones are becoming bigger and more powerful. So, what’s next in the world of phones? Gaming? Perhaps. Smartphone-maker Honor has been sending press invites promising a new device that is “crazy fun” and “crazy smart” – which sounds promising. That sounds like a gaming-inspired smartphone to us.
There will be plenty more exciting new launches to come at IFA 2018, so keep this site bookmarked for more when we hear it.
