When the chips are down...

If like me, you love chips but not the calories- the Tefal Actifry is a great solution! It cooks a kilo of chips with just a spoonful of oil.

When I first tried this fryer I thought the chips would come out soggy and anaemic but they were crunchy, crispy and delicious. It works by constantly moving the chips around in the oil, then basically bakes the oil on to the chips using extremely hot air, rather than the chips being soaked in litres of the stuff.

It takes slightly longer to cook chips than a traditional fat fryer (about 30 minutes) but on the plus side, you don’t have a nasty deep fat fryer full of smelly oil sitting on your kitchen worktop all the time.

After every use you can put most of the components in the dishwasher so it’s clean and tidy to store and your kitchen doesn’t end up smelling like a chip shop!

You obviously can’t fry things in batter like you can in a deep fryer, because you’re not dropping things in oil, but you can make things like curries, stir fries and even things like caramelised bananas in it.

All in all, this is one of the kitchen appliances I use most in my kitchen. Yes, it’s a fairly expensive bit of kitchen equipment but I promise you that you’ll get more use out of this than the breadmaker and juicer you probably asked for last Christmas and haven’t used since New years day!
