When you think of GoPro cameras you think action: waves and wind, sand and surf, ramps and rails, mountains and mud. And the HERO5 Black is ‘simply the best GoPro, ever’ according to the guys at GoPro (and they should know).
What is so special about the HERO5 black?
You may imagine one GoPro is much the same as the next: small cameras that you can attach to yourself or your equipment to shoot video and photos.
But this basic principle aside, there are some big differences between GoPro models. None are better suited to shooting professional-looking video off-the-beaten-track than the HERO5 Black.
You need to hit the waves: it’s waterproof. Your hands are full: it’s voice controlled. Picture quality is a huge priority: you can shoot in 4K resolution. It’s the fullest featured GoPro you can buy. Let’s look at some of those features in closer detail…
Share your adventures with QuikStories
Keen to share your latest adventure with your mates? QuikStories is a new GoPro app* that automatically sends your latest GoPro footage to your phone. It then arranges your content into a QuikStory – a fully edited, shareable video.
Wear it your way
GoPro cameras are all about seeing things from a different point of view. But the preferred POV for a cyclist will differ from that of a surfer. And the same again for scuba divers and mountain hikers. Choose from over 30 different mounts, so if you want to mount on your board, helmet, wrist or wing mirror, GoPro has you covered.
Shoot video that’s 4 times sharper than HD
You can shoot your next run or climb in superb quality. Record footage in 4K (that’s 4 times sharper than Full HD) at 30fps. Whether you’re atop a misty mountain, lost in a festival crowd or riding a breaking wave, everything will look incredible and rich in depth and detail – from the bubbling surf to the light reflecting off your sunglasses. And when you’re in the thick of the action, the action will stay smooth thanks to optical image stabilisation.
Ride the waves or dive deep
To take the first GoPros into the water you had to fork out for a separate waterproof housing. The GoPro HERO5 is naturally waterproof, there’s no need for extra protection. Scuba divers can swim as deep as 10m among the colourful sea life and coral reef. Above the surface, on the waves, surfers and windsurfers can shoot GoPro videos against the crashing tide.
Go hands-free with ‘GoPro, start recording’
When climbing a mountain or riding a rail, your hands are pretty much full most of the time. But forget about fiddling for the button – simply say, GoPro, start recording’ to get your movie under way. Voice control is at the heart of this GoPro. You can ask it to take a photo, shoot burst and turn-off. It can recognise 7 languages too.
Shoot photos in RAW
The GoPro HERO5 is an excellent stills camera as well. With it you can shoot photos in the RAW format, which is loved by serious photographers. RAW images are not compressed, giving you more freedom in the editing suite. ‘We recommend the use of RAW photo,’ says GoPro, ‘for those that intend to apply their own colour correction and other image editing techniques.’
Capture more detail in poor light
Getting great photos from mountaintops and after dark at Glasto isn’t easy. But the HERO5 can pick up greater detail in dark areas (mountain faces and crags) and highlight bright scenes (sun-kissed beaches and surf). So you get the best possible exposure in your photos, whatever the light.
Don’t get blown away
Great video can’t be great if accompanied by awful sound. But beaches, roads and mountaintops are known for their blustery, windswept conditions. This GoPro automatically filters out wind noise, so your videos will have great sound no matter what the conditions.
Life’s an adventure. Document yours with the GoPro HERO5 Black
