Sony has announced that its PlayStation 3 gaming console has crossed the 50 million sales milestone.
Worldwide sales of the PS3 went past the 50 million mark at the end of March, and by early April its new motion control accessory, the PlayStation Move, had sold more than eight million units.
The PS3 was launched by Sony in November 2006 and the Move peripheral made its debut in September last year.
Sony says the figures attest the success of its efforts to constantly evolve the PS3 by delivering new technologies and services to customers through firmware upgrades.
The PlayStation Network online community now has more than 75 million registered users in nearly 60 countries around the world.
Downloadable digital content, including games and movies, on the PlayStation Store, total around 106,000 globally.
