SEGA brings back the classic Mega Drive
With 80 games built-in and a port for old cartridges, the SEGA Mega Drive is a retro gamer’s dream…
This year has been heavy on the nostalgia for gamers, with Nintendo bringing back the NES and Pokémon Go exploding onto our streets. Now SEGA’s joined the line-up by rebooting the Mega Drive Classic.
What can you expect?
The tiny console has been completely revamped as part of the Sonic the Hedgehog 25th anniversary celebrations. It’s not just the spikey blue star who makes an appearance though – there are 80 classic games that come pre-loaded too.
No need to worry about complicated set-up – the console comes with ‘Plug n Play’ and works with any TV for hours of retro fun. Plus it includes two wireless controllers so you can take advantage of two-player mode straight away. If you’ve kept any of your old Mega Drive cartridges, they’ve included a port on the top so you can play those too.
What games can you play?
The two-player console aims to bring back the glory days of SEGA and many fan favourites are there too.
Dust off your fighting skills while playing one of three Mortal Kombat games and shatter rocks with your fists as you move Alex Kidd through magical discoveries – or discover games you’ve never had a chance to play. Other favourites include:
- Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2
- Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master
- Phantasy Star 2
- Sword of Vermilion
You’ll definitely feel the nostalgia because they’ve used the original game files – it’ll be like you’re a kid again.
SEGA has also announced they’re releasing a portable version of the console with a crisp 3.2 LCD display at the same time. It also comes with 80 classic games and includes an SD card so you can add even more favourites. Both will be available in October for around £49.99.
