New consoles – Xbox One S and ‘Project Scorpio’
Like the Xbox One? You’ll soon be able to get your hands on a brand new version of it, as Microsoft announced the launch of its Xbox One S console.
It’s 40% smaller than the Xbox One, with an ultra-sleek design. All while packing 2TB of internal storage – double the amount you currently get.
You’ll be able to enjoy razor-sharp graphics while you game as it supports 4K and UHD Ultra Blu-Ray discs. It’s can also play HDR content – for even more vibrant colours and greater contrast.
Xbox confirmed it’ll launch in August this year, at a price of £349.99 at Currys. It also works with the new Xbox wireless controller – which has been revamped to enhance your gaming experience even further with new features such as:
- A textured grip, which makes it much more comfortable to hold
- Increased range with Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth compatibility
- Option to customise it with loads of different colours
Not content with just the one console, Xbox also revealed another, known as Project Scorpio – coming soon for Christmas 2017.
So what do we know about it? Project Scorpio will support 4K gaming and virtual reality, and Xbox is dubbing it ‘the most powerful console ever’. But that’s about it for now – as it’s still in development.
Play anywhere with Microsoft’s new service
Microsoft is also planning to make syncing data across your devices even easier for Xbox users, with its Play Anywhere service. So if you buy a game for Xbox One you’ll be able to play it on your Windows 10 PC.
As well as this, you can pause a game on your Xbox and pick up where you left off on your PC thanks to the cross-save feature. Gears of War 4 will be the first game to have the Play Anywhere enabled when it’s released on 11th October.
Nintendo debuts Legend of Zelda and Pokemon games
Meanwhile, Nintendo gave us in-depth look at the new Legend of Zelda game for WiiU at its E3 showcase.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set in the vast open world of Hyrule, which you can explore freely. Link is much more agile – with the ability to climb buildings and even mountains then paraglide back to the ground, or use his shield to slide down.
What makes this game so unique is that there’s no set path you have to take – the way you complete it is completely up to you. As Nintendo America’s president Reggie Fils-Aime said, it ‘breaks boundaries for the franchise and for games as a whole.’
Nintendo confirmed the game will launch on WiiU as well as its new console, the NX, in 2017. Although there’s still no official word on when the NX will be available.
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon also had their world premiere at E3. Available on 3DS, the new games include new Pokémon and a never-before-seen region to explore – as well as a redesigned battle format for you to challenge your opponents.

Showing off what you can expect with its new console, Sony created some unique VR experiences – featuring games such as FarPoint, Batman: Arkham VR and Final Fantasy XV.
As well as this, there’s a host of other games on the way for PS4. Some of the titles set for release include:
- Old school favourite Crash Bandicoot, remastered for a PS4 edition
- God of War 4 – the franchise has been overhauled for this instalment, featuring new characters and a more in-depth storyline
- Horizon Zero Dawn – more gameplay footage of the action role-player gave us a glimpse of main character Aloy exploring a post-apocalyptic world
- Details of an exclusive Spiderman game for PS4 – Sony’s putting its own spin on the Marvel comic, although it doesn’t have a name for it just yet
Following a lot of speculation, we also saw the eerie trailer for Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, set for exclusive release on PS4. Recognise the main character? He’s played by Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead so it should make for pretty gripping stuff.
