How to get PlayStation on your TV without a PS4
Smart TVs are perfect for Netflix binging and iPlayer catch-up – but they’re also great for gamers too.
A Smart TV is regular television that can also connect to the internet. They are becoming more and more popular, all of our 4K TVs currently on sale are Smart, for example.

What is PlayStation Now?
Put simply, it’s a way of playing PlayStation 3 games over the internet – and you can stream directly to your TV.
How does it work?
You stream the games in the same way you do music from Spotify or movies from Netflix over the internet for a monthly subscription. This means you don’t need a PlayStation console or discs to play the games - just a broadband connection and a compatible device.
PlayStation Now came after Sony bought cloud gaming service Gakai a few years ago. Instead of living on your console, the games live on huge servers accessed over the web.

There are over 180 games available to stream from PlayStation Now, including classics like:
- The Last of Us: A truly cinematic, post-apocalyptic adventure which changed the face of gaming
- Unchartered 2: Among Thieves: Platform shooter with a cracking storyline the opportunity to explore
- Batman: Arkham City: Everyone’s favourite caped crusader cleans up the crime-ridden streets of Gotham City
How can I get I PlayStation Now?
To play PlayStation Now games you need the following:
- Broadband connection (minimum 5Mbps)
- Sony Dualshock 4 wireless controller
- Console: PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3
- Smart TV (Sony and Samsung)
- Monthly subscription (costs £12.99 but get a free trial first)
What TVs work with PlayStation Now?
Smart TVs from Sony run on the Android TV software from Google. This gives you access to things like the Google Play store as well as Netflix and catch-up TV apps.

How to get PlayStation Now? From the TV’s main menu go Featured apps > PlayStation Now
Samsung Smart TVs run the Smart Hub software. This gives you access to the TalkTalk TV Store (formerly Blinkbox) alongside Netflix and catch-up TV app.
