IFA 2018: Razer raises the bar with their new gaming range
Their latest products bring together: a gaming keyboard with features to help you play better, a wireless mouse that’s lighter and more responsive and a pair of headphones that take surround sound up another level.
Razer BlackWidow Elite Keyboard
Control and accuracy is everything when it comes to PC gaming. We were shown the BlackWidow Elite keyboard, and were impressed by how well it handles. The mechanical keys, for example, feel solid with every key press. On some keyboards, the keys can rock from side-to-side, but not these keys. They will even improve your typing accuracy, since the movement is much smoother.
Another big change is the addition of a Multi-Function Digital Dial, which acts like a scroll wheel. You can programme it to do anything. The addition of cable management also keeps your wires neatly under the keyboard.
And there there’s the Chroma lighting, which illuminates your keyboard with up to millions of different colours in a range of effects. They bring your gameplay experience to life, and add to the atmosphere of whatever you’re playing.
Razer revealed that its Chroma lighting is now compatible with other third-party gadgets, such as Philips Hue lights, so now your home lighting can be in sync with your game, and your entire room could potentially light up in tune with what’s on screen.
Razer Kraken Edition Tournament Edition Headphones
It’s all about surround sound, here, but not just any surround sound. We’re talking THX Spatial Audio – it creates more of a 360-degree sound with more depth from every angle. For example, if an enemy is lurking behind you, you’ll be able to tell just how far back they are.
There’ also a uni-directional microphone can be toggled on an off for voice chat during gameplay. In-line controls make it easy to adjust the volume without distracting you from your nail-biting multiplayer Fortnite session.
On top of that you’ve got punchy bass and great clarity when it comes to detailed sound, even if you’re just listening to music, the Kraken Edition will make your music sound great, Razer told us.
The earpads are super-comfortable, too. They’re soft to the touch, and have cooling gel inside, so your ears won’t feel hot and sticky during long game sessions. The headphones are also cross-compatible with PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and smartphones, so you can use them with all your gadgets.
Razer Mamba Wireless Mouse
And then there’s the Mamba Wireless Mouse. It may be wireless, but it’s still perfect for competitive gamers, thanks to a top-of-the-range 5G Advanced Optical Sensor, and Adaptive Frequency technology, which makes sure the wireless connection of the mouse is super fast.
We were also told the mouse has a battery life of up to 50 hours – that’s mighty impressive. It’s also extremely light, and cruises smoothly along any desk surface. And like the keyboard above, the Mamba Wireless Mouse also supports Razer Chroma lighting – which means it too can illuminate with up to 16.8 million customizable colours.
What do you think of the new Razer gaming peripherals? If you need a new keyboard, mouse, or a cracking pair of headphones, we think they’re worth a look.
