If you’re looking for a new TV, the chances are it will be Smart – letting you get more from your set by connecting it to the internet. The choice is then which platform to watch on.

One of the biggest of these is Samsung – and it’s revealed that 2.5million people use its Smart TV service every week.

We pick out some of the best features of the popular Smart Hub, from its fuss-free controls to vast swathes of content, and tell you why it’s so popular.

Samsung’s award-winning Smart TV

A Smart TV is like a regular TV that connects to your Wi-Fi, giving you access to catch-up services and apps. A major advantage is that everything is built in – so rather than using a set-top box or separate streaming device to get online, you’re already connected.

Want to find out more? 5 reasons your next TV should be Smart.

Most new TVs are Smart – Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic all have their own built-in Smart service. So the choice when you’re looking is what platform to go with.

Samsung Smart Hub is one of the most popular and has even won awards. It comes with all new Samsung TVs and with it you can:

  • watch all the major TV catch-up services like iPlayer, All4 and ITV Hub
  • get online with Facebook, Twitter and Skype
  • play games with built-in and downloadable apps
  • access content without any subscription fees, if you choose

Award-winning picture quality

Everything you do will look great, thanks to the award-winning picture quality – expect sharp images and bright, bold colour.

And with the Smart Evolution option enabled you’ll always stay up-to-date. It automatically updates to keep your TV’s processor and interface running at its best. Best of all, it’s subscription free. There’s no extra set-top box to buy and many of the apps are free to use or pay-as-you-go.

What can I watch?

The great thing about the Samsung Smart Hub is that you can personalise it with the kinds of shows you want to watch. Choose from hundreds of apps on the Apps Store and access them easily from the ‘My Apps’ tab on the menu.

Catch-up on the latest TV with ITV Hub, BBC iPlayer, 4OD and Demand 5. It’s great for kids too – with the CBeebies, Milkshake! and CITV apps all offering catch-up services.

If you’re a movie buff, you can get films on demand with Netflix and Amazon Prime Instant Video, MUBI and Curzon Home Cinema, as well as other video apps like YouTube, Vevo, TED and Vimeo.

Or use your Samsung Smart TV to stream music on Spotify, Deezer and Napster – and turn it into a radio with apps from Heart, Ministry of Sound, Xfm and Capital FM.

Sports fan? Samsung TVs are perfect for match day with BBC Sport, Red Bull and Euro Sport Player available to download.

Smart controls

Switching between the different apps is straightforward, thanks to the easy-to-use controls. With the smart remote – available on newer Samsung TVs – you simply point and click on the menu bar. Plus there are no trailing wires cluttering your living room – you can either connect it to your router with a single cable or use your wireless connection.

If your TV is 4K-enabled, you can enjoy a range of UHD content in 4 times the picture quality of Full HD.

The Smart Hub works with Samsung SUHD TVs to give you razor-sharp picture quality, greater contrast and more vivid colours. There are three main ways to watch:

  • Amazon Instant Video – enjoy 4K shows like Bosch, Mozart in the Jungle and the award-winning Transparent
  • Netflix – stream original series in UHD, including Better Call Saul, Marco Polo, House of Cards and Breaking Bad
  • VIVE Lifestyle Network (launching soon) – a dedicated lifestyle network featuring UHD shows like Adventures in Gardening with Toby Buckland and the Destinations travel channel
